It can be very frustrating when your TV is not working properly. The life of a TV projector lamp will vary based on factors such as application, installation, usage and maintenance. Heat buildup can reduce the life of a projector lamp if not damage it. It is therefore important to handle the lamp with utmost care to ensure it lasts longer. Every projector model in unique and instructions for repair and maintenance can be found in the user manual. These instructions are helpful if well applied. Apart from the instructions, here are some guidelines which help to prolong the effective life of your projector TV lamps.
- Clean the projector’s air filters.
Dust buildup is a very common problem in projector TV lamps. When the dust gathers inside, it influences heat dissipation causing overheating. Moreover, dust build up accelerates aging of some of the projector’s hardware. It is therefore important to clean the projector’s air intake filter every three to six months. An electric air blower gets things done effectively. It is important to note that, when cleaning the projector, it should be switched off.
- Give the projector time to cool off.
After switching off the projector, leave the projector in place and allow it some time to cool. Moving the projector about when it is still hot can cause mechanical shock in the lamp which will eventually lead to premature projector lamp failure.
- Replace the projector lamp using gloves.
Ensure you wear new and dry gloves when installing a new projector TV lamp. Avoid making contact with the front glass part of the lamp with bare hands as the oil from your skin will cause the glass to heat up and in turn shorten the life of your new bulb. The lamps contain mercury and other electronic wastes which should be disposed of properly with the gloves on.
- Do not force projector lamp.
During installation of a projector lamp, the lamp should fit snuggly, but should not be forced. If the lamp is compatible with the projector model, it should slide in. The lamps are designed to fit the projector intuitively and you can tell when it is correctly fitted.
- Apply the right tightening
It is extremely important to ensure you use the right amount of tightening on the lamp’s terminals. Tightening the lamp too much is dangerous but having a loose lamp is not any different.
